Doxycyline is one of the two most prescribed drugs for bacterial vaginosis. For a lot of women, doxycyline can be a good treatment for BV. However, in others it doesn’t work at all or, works for awhile and then becomes ineffective.
The reason that doxycyline often is no good for BV in the longer term is that it kills ALL of the bacteria in the vagina and not just the bad gardnerella bacteria which cause the BV in the first place.
On top of that, doxycyline does absolutely NOTHING to repair your vagina’s natural pH balance which is really the underlying cause of all your problems.
Finally, doxycyline comes with a host of potential side effects that are typical of antibiotics in its class. For many women, this fact alone is enough to steer them clear of using doxycyline to treat their BV. In my opinion, the natural cures out there which are much more effective and long lasting are a much better approach.
